WHS wrestling regular season concludes

020916-WHS vs Ludlow wrest-St-Onge-001WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School wrestling team may have fallen to Ludlow in its final meet of the regular season, but there were bright spots aplenty. No score was available prior to deadline.
At 120 pounds, Kaela Brazee continued her tear, pinning a Lion in the first period.
Jack Yvon also continued to impress. Yvon earned a second period pin.
Richard Jablonski and Arda Ibas claimed the match of the night though.
Jablonski, down by one point, secured a takedown as time expired. It was just one second too late.
Westfield will now set its sights on Saturday’s Western Massachusetts Division 1 championships at Central High School. The tournament is expected to get under way shortly after 9 a.m., with championship rounds to be held later in the day.

WHS escapes with victory
Westfield 37, Ludlow 34
Alexa Morin scored a game-high 18 points to lead Westfield to a nice road win. Bombers’ Alexis Wood made two 3-pointers and finished with eight points.
Ludlow’s Tasha Kwatowski scored a team-high 16.

Cry, Start lead Smith
Smith Voke 67, St. Mary 22
Smith Voke’s Sydney Cry (22 points) and Stephanie Start (20) combined for 44 points at Westfield Middle School North.
Madie Donais led St. Mary with six points. Jessica Crosby and Elisa Kosinski each had four.

Rams double up Pope Francis
Southwick 52, Pope Francis 25
Southwick doubled up Pope Francis on the road with every player getting in on the scoring action.
The JV unit was also successful, winning 44-16.

Metellus nets 23
Putnam 50, Gateway 16
Brianna Metellus scored a game-high 23 points to propel Putnam on the road. Gabby Goralczyk led Gateway with eight.
