Cancer House of Hope receives donation

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Center for Human Development’s Cancer House of Hope in West Springfield was selected as the recipient of proceeds from the Richie Russell Memorial Golf Tournament organized by members of American Legion Post 124 in Westfield. The funds will be used to assist the Cancer House of Hope in its mission to provide free-of-charge cancer support services, education and wellness programs to those who face this devastating disease as well as their family and friends.
When they teed off at Tekoa Country Club on July, it marked the 20th consecutive year that the Legion has organized the fundraising tournament led this year by Harold “Butch” Rines and the 18th time holding it as a benefit for the Cancer House of Hope. Many members of the Legion have been personally touched by cancer.
Shirley Zarichak, a long-time member of the planning committee, spent time volunteering at the Cancer House of Hope when it was in Westfield and was quick to point out that the community coming together is what makes it possible. “We have some amazing partners who reliably support our tournament; it’s great to have the community come together for people when they need it.”
“We are proud and humbled by the American Legion Post 124’s support,” said Cancer House of Hope Director, Jerry Myers. “It is generous and devoted groups like the Legion that make it possible for us at the House to help those in need.”
