DeLand inducted
PHILADELPHIA – David DeLand, a 2009 graduate of Westfield High School, was recently inducted into the Tau Phi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, an American collegiate honor society for undergraduate students, graduate students, and professors of history. David is currently completing his senior year at Villanova University majoring in history and economics. He is the son of Kathryn Meagher DeLand of Westfield and Stephen DeLand of East Otis and the grandson of Paul & Mary Meagher of Westfield and Graydon & Carol DeLand of Southwick.

Goodwin College Honors Marcia Scanlon With Longevity Award
EAST HARTFORD, CT  – Goodwin College is pleased to honor Marcia Scanlon for dedicated service to students and the College community as a whole. Scanlon, who has worked at Goodwin for five years, hit a professional milestone and has been rewarded with a Goodwin College Longevity Award.
Goodwin honored 32 employees with Longevity Awards during the most recent Community Day celebration. The awards are given to employees in recognition of length of service to the College in increments of every five years. This year Goodwin celebrated five-year anniversaries for 19 employees, 10-year anniversaries for nine employees, and 15-year anniversaries for two employees. Two more employees hit milestones of 20 and 25 years, respectively, of employment at Goodwin. Scanlon, Nursing Department Adjunct, was honored for five years of service to Goodwin. Present Mark Scheinberg, who himself celebrated his 30th anniversary at Goodwin this year, presented Scanlon with a Longevity Award and gave his gratitude. The College congratulates Scanlon for the achievement and looks forward to celebrating many more milestones for our growing family of employees.

Denielle Cote of Westfield Inducted into International Honor Society for Nursing at Quinnipiac University
HAMDEN, CT – Denielle Cote of Westfield, Mass. was recently inducted into the Tau Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society for nursing at Quinnipiac University. Cote was one of 48 undergraduate students inducted this semester at a School of Nursing ceremony.
To be eligible for induction, an undergraduate student must be in the top 35 percent of their graduating class, have completed at least one-half of their degree curriculum, as well as meet the expectation of academic integrity. Quinnipiac launched the School of Nursing in 2011 in recognition of the ever-increasing role registered nurses and advance practice nurses play on health care teams. The School of Nursing offers a traditional bachelor of science in nursing and an accelerated BSN for second degree students. A doctoral-level graduate program preparing adult-gerontology and family nurse practitioners is available for post-bachelor’s degree nurses.The program also offers a doctoral-level, post-master’s leadership track in the care of populations.

Alisha Seney Studies Abroad at Champlain’s Dublin, Ireland Campus
BURLINGTON, VT – Alisha Seney, a Professional Writing major from Huntington, MA is currently studying abroad at the Champlain College Campus in Dublin, Ireland. At Champlain’s state-of-the-art Academic Center in Dublin, Seney and other students have the opportunity to receive international perspective and prepare to be global professionals. Seney, a Junior will be studying in Ireland for the remainder of the spring semester. Local Champlain faculty and staff at the Dublin Campus provide guided immersion tours, as well as encourage students to make their own travel opportunities. While abroad, students are also able to create strong friendships, share experiences and support each other in their explorations of place and self.

Tyler Hess of Southwick Named to Provost Listat Southern Vermont College
BURLINGTON, VT – Tyler D. Hess of Southwick, Mass., has been named to the Provost List for Fall 2012 at Southern Vermont College in Bennington, Vt. The Provost List recognizes full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 during the semester. Hess is a sophomore majoring in History and Politics. He has also been a member of the men’s basketball team. Hess is a graduate of Southwick/Tolland Regional High School, and he is the son of Daniel and Kimberly Hess of Southwick.
