Blue Devils edge Bombers

NORTHAMPTON – Northampton staved off a hard-charging Westfield squad in a boys’ lacrosse game Friday, clipping the Bombers 6-5 on a rain-soaked Blue Devils’ field.
Zach Gentle and Max Maggipinto scored two goals apiece and and Ryan Metcalf tallied one for Westfield, which slipped to 1-1. Bombers’ Matt Bonsall had two assists.

Westfield goalie Alex Beauchemin collected 14 saves.
Westfield defensemen Mitch Weiss, Chris Meneses, Mike Biskupik, Gavin Carzello, and Zach Cree were solid.

Purple Knights rally past Rams
Holyoke def. Southwick, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-12

Southwick came out strong, securing a three-point victory in the first set. Holyoke rallied to win the next three sets to escape with the road victory.
Andrew Lachtara delivered a solid all-around game for Southwick with five assists, four aces, and two digs. Rams’ Chris Baker (4 blocks, 3 kills), Change Tang (2 aces, 10 digs), and Nick Chambers (3 kills, 4 digs) also played well.

GIRLS’ TENNIS
Hinck sinks Tiger
South Hadley 4, Westfield 1

Clara Hinck secured Westfield’s lone match against visiting South Hadley. Hinck defeated Caroline Robitaille 6-3, 6-4 at first singles.
Westfield’s Nicole Vilane lost a close match to Hailey Werenski, 6-3, 6-2.
