WESTFIELD – The Lady Bombers and Westfield Technical Academy Tigers hosted the Ludlow Lions in a cross country meet at Stanley Park on Tuesday. The event was expanded with a simultaneous dual meet between St Mary’s of Westfield and Frontier Regional High School. This was the last home dual meet for WHS and WTA, and the Westfield staff noted the occasion by acknowledging the seniors from all the schools running in their last Stanley Park dual meet.
Last year, Ludlow edged out Westfield, but this year the Bombers prevailed with a score of 24-37, evening their season record to 2-2.
Westfield’s Sophie Gronbeck crossed the finish line first with a season best 20:43, followed by Ludlow’s Emily Alves (21:39) and Savannah Charow (22:03). Westfield’s Mia McDonald (22:18), Mary Philpott (22:45 – Personal Best), Senior Libby Irwin (22:48 – Season Best), and Clara Hinck (23:38) score “top five” points for the Bombers while rookie teammates Moira McDonald (22:43 Season Best) and Hannah Jury (24:17 – Season Best) scored by displacing Ludlow’s fourth and fifth finishers. The Bombers ran very well from top to bottom with 14 of the 19 finishers turning season best 5K times. A particularly noteworthy run was senior Casey Becker’s finish in a four-year personal best 25.16.
