WESTFIELD – Over 300 Boys and Girls Clubs across the country decided to attempt to break a world record. What record can thousands of energetic children participate in breaking? Well, the Club found the perfect one, asking its members to exercise for 15 minutes straight, so they can try to break the record of the most amount of people to exercise to a work-out video at one time. Since this was such a fun and interesting idea, it probably did not take much convincing to get the members of the Club to want to give it their all, exercising for the full 15 minutes for the attempt at breaking this pesky record. To actually break the record, there would need to be thousands of members participating, a task that may be more realistic than it sounds.
Hundreds of members gathered in the gymnasium at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Westfield alone, one can only imagine how many other members joined in for this event at the many other Clubs choosing to get in on the action. Not many people can say they have broken a world record, but the Club gave all of its members the opportunity to say they participated in at least making an effort to, and they are now waiting for the results with fingers crossed. After all the children were situated, making sure to be standing next to friends and getting all the laughter and chatter out, it was time to get down to business. The children and staff were ready for the attempt.
Tom Bozek the Athletic Coordinator for the Club, popped in the work-out video and the exercising began! All the members of the Club got their hearts pumping, jumping wildly along with the video, swinging their arms to the left then the right, squatting down to the floor then leaping up to touch the sky. It was certainly a sight to see. Not a single child slacked off when it came to doing their best for this hopefully record breaking moment, but they have yet to see if they succeeded.
Friday was an eventful day for the members of the Club. They were able to have fun while being productive, something the Club strives for each and every day. Bozek said of the event, “It was great to see all the kids being involved in the record attempt and having fun with it at the same time.” To learn more about the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Westfield, please call Kellie Brown at 413.562.2301 or visit them at their website www.bgcwestfield.org.
