Businesses Sought for Trunk or Treat Celebration

WESTFIELD-The Queen of Hearts will be among a cast of characters that await families for the first annual Westfield Trunk or Treat celebration at Westfield Funeral Home and Cremation on Oct. 30.

“During a recent conversation with Kim Starsiak of the All Stars Dance Center, we both agreed that a free event for kids around Halloween in a safe environment would be fun to do,” said Pamela J. Fortier, funeral director. Fortier and Westfield Funeral Home co-owner, David Burl, are sponsoring the afternoon event along with Starsiak.

Highlights of the Halloween celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. at 4 Princeton St. include fingerprinting of children by the Westfield Police Department, a Westfield Fire Department vehicle, a disc jockey, craft tables, and performances by Macaroni Kids and the All Stars Dance Center.

“Our afternoon celebration will also include costume contests and plenty of treats,” said Fortier, adding her mom, Sheryl Fortier, will be greeting families in her Queen of Hearts costume.

Both women noted that local businesses are welcome to participate by bringing their vehicle to the event decorated for the season and, of course, providing treats too.

“We are looking for participants to decorate their trunks and a $25 gift card will be given to the person who wins ‘best trunk,’” said Fortier, adding that registration forms are available by emailing her at [email protected] or Starsiak at [email protected].

Starsiak said at press time that businesses including the Roots Aquatic and Fitness Center, Liptak Carpet Cleaning and the Westfield Community Church have signed up.

“We are expecting 100 to 150 families,” said Fortier, adding that participants will need to be set up at noon due to safety concerns. “We have a limited amount of space available for cars so we encourage interested businesses to sign up early.”

Starsiak echoed those sentiments.

“We are hoping that other businesses will want to be involved in this beautiful community and family friendly event,” said Starsiak. “All that is needed by a business is to decorate the vehicle’s trunk and hand out treats.”
