Charlotte M. Brown

SOUTHWICK:  Charlotte M. (Depping) Brown passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on December 16, 2014 at Westfield Center for Genesis. She was the daughter of August and Anne (Briggs) Depping. Charlotte was born on December 4th, 1920 and graduated from Westfield Schools in 1938. In 1942 she married David H. Brown, who was a member of the Army Air Corps and later the Air Force. During his 21 years of military service she accompanied him to various stations which included Chicopee, MA, Saudi Arabia, New Mexico, Alaska, and Maine. During that time they had four children: Sandra, an infant daughter who died shortly after birth, James, and Judith. Upon David’s retirement in 1961 they returned to live in Southwick, MA in the home Charlotte’s father August built, which she loved so much. Charlotte assisted her parents who owned Depping and Moore Hardware Store of Westfield and much later worked at Ames Department Store in Westfield until her retirement. Charlotte and David were active square dancers and were members of the Town and Country Square Dance Club and The Storrowton Village Dancers. She was also a member of The Eastern Star, Grange, and the Southwick Senior Center. Charlotte and David enjoyed spending time vacationing on the coast of Maine and took every opportunity to do so. Charlotte is survived by her son James Brown and his wife Mildred of Wilton, ME, her daughter Judith Frenetteand her husband James of Southwick. She also leaves her grandchildren which she loved so much: Candance Mefford and her husband Randall of Lakewood, WA; Allyson Frenette and her husband John of Layton, UT; James O’Hara and his wife Karen of Enfield, CT; Scott O’Hara of Utah; James Brown and his wife Shye of Southwick; Christopher Brown and his wife Meghan of Holyoke; Sabrina Avezzie and her husband Harley of Westfield; Amanda Whitfield and her husband Justin of Billerica, MA; and Robert Frenette of Southwick. She also has twenty great grandchildren and three great- great grandsons that affectionately called her GG. She enjoyed watching them as they entertained her whenever they had their Christmas Eve get togethers or other family gatherings. She was predeceased by her husband David in 1996, her daughter Sandra Marshall in 2013 and Sandra’s husband Alan in 2014, a grandson Dana Oberheim in 1980, and her daughter-in-law Mary Brown 2010. Family and friends will gather on Monday (Dec. 22) from 4pm until 7pm in the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home and Cremation, (413) 569-5306, 624 College Highway (Route 202/10) Southwick.
