Clarkson engineers win over Owls

SCHENECTADY, NY – Felix Abongo scored a game high 17 points with seven rebounds and Derek Hart had 16 with a game best eight boards to lead Clarkson to an 81-62 win over Westfield State at the Sig Makofski Classic at Union”s Viniar Athletic Center Sunday. The Golden Knights improved to 2-5 while the Owls fell to 3-4.
Conrad Zampier scored 15 points and Drew Zlogar added 13 for Clarkson, which shot 54% for the game making 28 of 52 shots. The Knights also made 86% of the free throws, 18 for 21. Malaquias Canery had a game best four assists.
Jesus Sanchez led Westfield State with nine points and Shane Pasquantonio had seven points with a team high four rebounds. Nick Guerriero added seven points off the Westfield State bench. The Owls shot 47% and had a 30-28 rebounding advantage.
Clarkson jumped out online casino early and led by 14 with 11:16 left in the first half. The largest lead of the half was the 22 point margin at halftime, 43-21, after a three pointer by Drew Zlogar. The largest lead of the day came when Canery made a jumper for a 79-51 lead with 4:06 left.
Clarkson returns to action December 1 when the Knights host Postdam at 7 p.m. Westfield State hosts Amherst December 1 at 7 p.m.
PASQUANTONIO, OWLS SAIL PAST DUTCHMEN: Shane Pasquantonio scored a game high 27 points with 10 rebounds to lead Westfield State to an 85-78 non-league basketball win over host Union at the Sig Makofski Classic Saturday night.
Peter Mafo added 16 points and Justin McElroy had 11 for the Owls, who shot 49% for the game and had a 45-34 rebounding advantage. Pasquantonio made 11 of 20 shots and five of six from the line and nine of his boards came on the defensive side.
Union was led by Deshon Burgess, who scored 23 along with four assists and seven rebounds. William Hython had a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Wade McNamara scored 15 and Ryan Whelpley added 14 with six rebounds. Union shot 43% for the game.
Westfield led 43-37 at halftime and led by as many as 12 in the first 20 minutes (32-20 with 6:04 remaining). Union tied it at 47-47 with 15:12 left and it was 55-55 with 12:17 to play in the second half. The Dutchmen then went on a six point run for a 61-57 lead with 9:42 left and also led by six at 67-61 with 6:43 to play after a layup by Whelpley. But the Owls came back to take a 72-70 lead with 3:19 to play. Burgess hit a layup with 3:02 left for the tie, but a jumper by Pasquantonio with 2:44 to play gave the guests the lead for good. The Owls made six free throws in the final 27 seconds to provide the final.
