North Carolina – Demos Yannikos Loving brother, son and Uncle. He will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. Demo was born in Pireaus Greece on July 23rd 1977. He grew up in Springfield Mass and attended Central High school and went on to study Psychology at Holyoke Community College and Western New England where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
Demo moved to North Carolina where he worked for Transylvania Vocational Services as a Counselor and Special Needs manager. He had many special friends including his Best friend Matt Brown and Nikki Yannikos his long time girlfriend in North Carolina. Nikki wrote about Demo whom she loved so much:
“Demos was an incredibly talented poet and a brilliant philosopher. The guys he lived with at TVS loved him for his compassion and his sarcasm. He always had the best stories to tell around the fire pit and our southern friends loved his yankee accent. He loved music and goingt o concerts and an intelligent debate He also adored and spoiled Lexi and Smokey. They never left his side. He believed we are all connected through energy. I know he left a piece of himself with everyone he touched” Many of his poems were posted to FB …writing was his therapy and outlet.
He leaves behind his mother Georgia Yannikos , his father Larry Yannikos, Brother Stratos Yannikos, sister Effie Rickson, brother-in-law Donald Rickson, his nephews Christopher Conant and Patrick Rickson and his niece Alena Rickson and many friends who will miss him so very much. Gone but never forgotten. We love you with all that we have.
The funeral Service for Demos will be held on Tuesday February 28th in St. George Greek Orthadox Church, 22 St. George Road, Springfield at 11 am. The burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Westfield. He will lie in state in the church before the service from 9:30 am till 11:00 am.
