Double trouble

WESTFIELD – Local fans were treated to a Martin Luther King, Jr. high school boys’ ice hockey holiday double header Monday at Amelia Park Ice Arena. Unfortunately for the faithful, fans seeking “W”s left empty-handed.

Bombers nipped
Marblehead 2, Westfield 1
Westfield fell to 9-4 overall, losing to a tough Marblehead team.
Marblehead scored the game-winner on a breakaway goal in the second period. Scott Bussell tallied the lone Westfield goal. Bombers’ goalie Cam Parent finished with 32 saves.

Westfield had numerous chances to net the equalizer, but failed to capitalize.
“We’re coming into our own even though we got beat today,” said Westfield coach C.B. “Moose” Matthews. “Longmeadow better look out. We’re coming for them.”

Tigers skate past Saints
South Hadley 6, St. Mary 2
South Hadley skated out to a 2-0 lead, Sean Doherty scored two goals, Nick Thibault had two assists, and the Tigers went on to defeat St. Mary by four goals in a morning tilt at Amelia Park Arena.
Kenney Bonney and Sam LaBombard each collected goals for St. Mary.
