Falcons soar past WHS

WESTFIELD – The high school regular season came to a crashing halt Friday for one local high school team.
Minnechaug pitcher Katelyn Thompson tossed a four-hitter, striking out 10 batters, and the Falcons topped the Westfield Bombers 8-4.
Nina Langone (run, 2 RBIs) and Rachel Crafts (2-for 4, 2 runs, RBI) each homered for Minnechaug, Patricia Murphy (RBI) and Jessica Anderson each collected two hits apiece, Thompson (2 runs) and Calli Murphy each doubled, and Nina Langone (run, 2 RBIs) and Emma Hicklen (2 runs, 2 RBIs) finished with a hit apiece.

Brit Kowalski, Sam Schieppe (RBI), Morgan Zabielski (run), and Nicole Graves (run) each had a hit for Westfield.
Next up for Westfield: the Western Massachusetts Division 1 softball tournament. The tournament pairings will be announced early next week.
TOURNAMENT UPDATE: Seedings for the Central-West Division 1 boys’ and girls’ lacrosse tournaments were unveiled Friday.
On Tuesday, sixth-seeded Westfield (11-7) will host No. 11 Nashoba (10-8) in a boys’ lacrosse tournament opener at 4:30 p.m. The Bombers’ girls’ lacrosse team, its tournament’s seventh seed, will host No. 10 Wachusett (9-9) Wednesday, also at 4:30.
“I’m just excited getting ranked this high,” said Westfield girls’ lacrosse coach Paul Fenwick, who earned its best tournament seed in recent memory.
Top-seeded Westfield (14-3) will take on No. 8 East Longmeadow (12-7) in the Western Mass D1 boys’ volleyball quarterfinals Wednesday night at 6:30.
