SOUTHWICK – The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School Committee named Amy Fouracre the new Woodland Elementary School principal this week.
Fouracre is currently the assistant principal of the elementary and middle school at Gateway Regional School District and will start at Woodland July 1.
“I’m thrilled,” Fouracre said following the unanimous vote. “I’m excited – it just feels like the right place for me.”
Fouracre comes from a line of education- and service-minded people. Her grandfather was a selectman and her father was a member of their town’s school committee.
“We were very involved in the town,” said the Westfield resident.
Being involved in a small town was one of the reasons she was drawn to the Woodland position and western Massachusetts.
“There’s a kind spirit here,” she said. “People are a little more relaxed than other parts of the state.”
Fouracre will take the position vacated by Principal Kim Sasso, who is set to become the intermediate school principal after the retirement of Powder Mill Middle School Principal Ronald Peloquin at the end of the school year.
Fouracre said she looks forward to working in one school focused on primary education.
“I really like the grade configuration taking place here,” she said.
Fouracre’s background is in elementary education, and she worked as a coach to other teachers before becoming an administrator.
“I look forward to being an active member of the district,” Fouracre said.
