George H. Benoit, Jr.

Westfield- George Herbert Benoit, Jr., 82, passed away of cardiac arrest on Monday, December 4, 2017; surrounded by his loving family.

George was born in Ludlow, Massachusetts on February 6, 1935, a son of the late George H. Benoit, Sr. and Lena (Blass) Benoit. He was a resident of Westfield for over 60 years; having previously lived in Springfield. George was a parishioner of St. Peter& St. Casimir Church.

Prior to his retirement, George was a Master Sergeant for the Air National Guard, 104th. He served his country honorably being deployed to France,  Berlin, and West Germany during the Berlin Wall Crisis.  George also owned his own family business, Benoit Painting Company, which is now run by his son Christopher.  George and his wife Dee also owned and operated Dee’s and Uncle George’s Craft Shop in Westfield.

He loved to share little stuffed animals with young children in restaurants, whom he would surprise and reward them for good behavior.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by three brothers, Walter Benoit, Richard Benoit, and Delore Benoit; four sisters, Lou Vershon, Nina Grimm, Irene Talbot, and Evelyn Benoit.

Besides his devoted wife of 63 years, Doris G. (Grimard) Benoit,  George is survived by his loving children and their spouses, Maryjane and Lennie Chapman, Janet Lee and Rob Porter, Christopher and Laura Benoit; two sisters, Dorothy Desroches and Shirley Benoit; four grandchildren, Alyssa Hannon and husband Bob, Nathan Porter, Jeremy Porter and wife Erin, Lindsay Joy Kessler;  four great grandchildren, Olivia Porter, Ella Porter, Aria Porter, and Lydia Joy Kessler; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will gather from 11:00AM to 1:00PM on Saturday, December 9, 2017 and greet friends in the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 624 College Highway (Highway 10/202), Southwick. A funeral home ceremony will then follow at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Peter& St. Casimir Church, 22 State St., Westfield, MA 01085; or to the MSPCA-Angell Headquarters, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
