Girard, Saints blast HCSS

CHICOPEE – St. Mary’s Zac Girard scored five goals, and the Saints boys’ soccer team rolled past Hampden County School of Science 6-2 Monday.
Joey Collins scored the other St. Mary goal. Alex Parentella collected two assists for the Saints, and Nick Garde, Collins, and Seamus Butler each had one.
“It was a good game today,” St. Mary coach Andrew Martin said. “It was a good effort by the guys as we get ready for the postseason.”
St. Mary put together a 3-0 halftime lead, and led by 5-0 before the Saints eased up a bit with bench players seeing nearly 20 minutes of action at the end of the game.
St. Mary closes out its regular season Tuesday vs. Ware at Westfield Middle School North at 4 p.m.

Westfield fell to 7-6-5 on senior night in its final regular season game.
“It was a nice night for the seniors,” Westfield coach Andrew Joseph said. “I’m glad we got them a full game to play. They definitely deserved to play tonight.”

STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Westfield High School’s Sebastian Soendergaard shot a 77 to tie for 11th at the par-72 championship course at Springfield Country Club Monday. Lexington’s Jack Lang won the Division I state individual title with a 4-under 68. Xaverian Bros., of Westwood won the team title with a 299 … James Longhi had the best finish for a Southwick Ram, shooting an 87 at Glenn Ellen Country Club in Millis. Somerset’s A.J. Guidotti won the D2 title with a 1-under 71. Wayland took home the team title with a 306 … St. Mary tied for 11th in the D3 championship with a 377 at Black Swan Country Club in Georgetown. Weston repeated as team champ with a 326. Etienne Bourgoin, of Abington won the individual title with a 74. Dominic Ceccarini shot an 86 to lead the Saints, with Harry Reed (94) and Matt Wurster (96) following just behind.

Hannah Sitler had a stellar game for Southwick with five aces, 17 kills, and five digs; Jackie Maziarz finished with 10 kills and three aces; Emily Lachtara had five kills and seven aces, Lexi DeGray collected eight digs and nine assists, and Breanna Castor had three kills and five digs.
