Glenn W. Cardinal

BUCKLAND- Glenn W. Cardinal, 69, of Hog Hollow Road, suddenly fell ill and passed away peacefully on Wednesday (November 30), at Baystate Medical in Springfield.

Born and raised in Westfield, Massachusetts, he was the son of William G. Cardinal (deceased) and Gabriella (Carvalho) Cardinal Schmidt.  He also leaves his sister, Heidi Cote and her husband Tryon, their son Dustin Cote; his cousin Diane Allen and her husband Russell Authier. In 1967, he married Sandra Lynn Utts and they enjoyed nearly 49 years together raising their son, sharing hobbies and adventures with friends in camping, boating, motorcycling and most recently tending 20 acres of land. A devoted father and grandfather, Glenn leaves his wife Sandy, son Shawn, daughter-in-law Hillary, and their two children Griffin and Brooke (Birdie). He graduated from Westfield High School and received his Associates Degree in Electronic Engineering from Springfield Technical Community College. Glenn began his long career in broadcasting and community involvement at WHMP in Northampton as the overnight on-air personality.  He ultimately became one of the co-founders of WPVQ Radio, and general manager of a number of area radio stations including WHAI in Greenfield, WKVT in Brattleboro, and WHMP in Northampton.

After his long career in the Pioneer Valley, Glenn moved to Buckland with his wife Sandy, and focused his energy on their retired life together, while actively participating in the community.  He expressed his interest in education, safety and the value of community as a member of the Mohawk Regional School Committee,  the Buckland Fire District Prudential Committee, and working with the Buckland Historic Society.  He was one of the leading voices in trying to bring broadband internet service to the unserved and partially served towns in Western Massachusetts.
