Guest speaker will bring public awareness on refugees who are Islam or Muslim

WESTFIELD – W.A.R.M. (Welcoming and Assisting Refugee Ministry) continues its interfaith series about refugees at their next community gathering on Thursday April 6. The meeting will take place at the First Congregational Church in Westfield from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

As each gathering hones in on a specific aspect towards more public information on refugees that may locate in the nearby area, this particular meeting is titled “Learning About Islam and Muslims – a clarification of the basic tenants of Islam and the way of life of its followers.”

Leading the program will be the guest speaker, Aida Mansoor, who is the co-founder of Muslim Coalition of Connecticut. Founded together with her husband, the coalition tries to foster an understanding of mutual respect among all faiths.

W.A.R.M. member Shirley Anderson likes the fact that the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut brings people together.

“They do activities that benefit the entire community,” said Anderson.

Anderson encourages the public to come out and attend as Mansoor is expected to very informative for the community.

“She’s a well-experienced presenter on topics having to deal with the Muslim community,” said Anderson.

The community gathering is open to the public.
