Holden Canty Receives Skookum Award at WNEU

SPRINGFIELD – Holden Canty of Westfield was recently named a recipient of the Grand Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University’s Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. “Skookum” is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning “excellence.” Canty was one of 15 outstanding students to receive an award during ceremonies on the Springfield campus.
Canty is a senior working towards a double major in Accounting and Finance.He has served on Student Senate as president, Freshman Council as finance chairperson, Orientation Group Leader, Open House volunteer, and First Year Seminar Assistant. In addition, Canty is a second year Resident Advisor, is a member of the All University Committee for Student Affairs, and works as a student assistant in the College of Business.
Last winter, Canty was an assurance intern with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) where he gained experience through client visits with teams of PWC associates. He has since been offered a full time position with PWC after he completes his Master of Science in Accounting at Western New England.
