HUNTINGTON – The Huntington Fire Department will host a Safety Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Littleville Elementary School grounds on Littleville Road.
The Safety Day, which is free and open to the public, will feature fire trucks and activities, ambulances, the Huntington Police Department and Smokey the Bear, who will be present for most of the day.
Joining them, dependent on emergency calls and weather, will be the Life Star helicopter at 10 a.m., State Police dogs, the Mass. State Police helicopter at 1 p.m. and the Mass. State Police rollover simulator between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Masons will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for fingerprint and photo ID’s. Baystate Children’s Hospital Safe Kids program will offer car seat checks and inspections from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Also on site, Central Chevrolet will have a car with a thermometer to demonstrate internal car temperatures.
There will also be a Jaws of Life car cut up demonstration at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and an Interstate Towing display.
Food and drinks will be available for sale throughout the day.
“This will give people a chance to see how our services work, and to ask questions,” said Charles Dazelle, Huntington’s highway superintendent and assistant fire chief. He encouraged families to bring their kids to meet Smokey the Bear and to see the helicopters. He said they are also looking for recruits to join the fire department or medical field, and encouraged interested people to come out.
