John M. “Jack” Griffin

WESTFIELD:  John M. “Jack” Griffin, 74, of Westfield died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in Noble Hospital. He was born in Westfield on May 19, 1940 to John J. and Bertha E. (Noble) Griffin. Jack was a 1958 graduate of Westfield High School and was employed as an installer & cable repairman for New England Telephone Company/Verizon for twenty-seven years retiring in 1991. He was a US Air Force Veteran, stationed for a time in Turkey, and a member of the American Legion Post 124 in Westfield. Jack also belonged to the Telephone Pioneers and the Westfield Sportsman Club. Early years of retirement were spent traveling, with numerous trips throughout the country, Canada, and Europe. An avid sports fan, he especially followed and rooted for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. A former high school basketball standout, he watched college basketball throughout the year and was glued to the television during March Madness. As an outdoorsman and hunter, Jack enjoyed spending time in the Vermont woods at Lake Seymour. At home he could constantly be found around his yard working on his lawn. Spare time was often spent socializing with the guys over coffee and weekly breakfast visits with friends and family. Friends and neighbors will remember him as always willing to lend a helping hand. Jack leaves his wife of forty-nine years, Lois (Masciadrelli) Griffin and their children, Michael J. Griffin of Westfield and Mark D. Griffin of Charlestown, MA, a sister Alice A. Liptak and her husband Jacob of Westfield, their daughter Karen, sister-in-law Linda Levere of Westfield, along with several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday March 31, 2015 at 9:30 AM at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St Mary’s Church at 10:30 AM with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
