Joseph E. Calabrese

SOUTHWICK: flagJoseph Edward Calabrese, 90, a resident and local farmer in Southwick for over 65 years, died early Thursday afternoon, July 30, 2015 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Agawam, a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Deloghia) Calabrese. After finishing high school, Joe entered the U.S. Navy where he served his country during WW II aboard the USS Moreno. Joe returned to civilian life in 1946 and later married his best friend and loving wife of 45 years, Eleanor (Piccin) Calabrese. They and their children began a career spanning 65 years as the owners and operators of Calabrese Farms, located on Feeding Hills Road in Southwick. Joe was the devoted husband of the late Eleanor (Piccin) Calabrese who died in July of 1996 and leaves two loving children, Thomas J. Calabrese and his wife Donna of Southwick, and Patricia A. Safford and her husband Scott of Simi Valley, CA; a brother, Charles Calabrese of Agawam; four cherished grandchildren, Joseph T., and Michael F. Calabrese, Danielle R. Calabrese-Brown and Jonathan P. Safford; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents and wife, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Stella Gallerani. A private funeral was held at Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, with burial concluding at New Cemetery.
