7:11 a.m.: larceny, Monroe Street, a caller reports his house was broken into overnight and a television and work keys were stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that he came home to find his back door ajar, the man said that only the television and keys were stolen;
9:16 a.m.: found property, Hampton Ponds Plaza, 1029 North Road, a caller reports a bicycle has been parked at the shopping center for weeks, the responding officer reports the bike was found to be locked to a light pole with a helmet, bicycle pump and the keys to the lock nearby, the bicycle was transported to the station for safe keeping;
9:33 a.m.: arrest, Westfield District Court, 224 Elm Street, a detective reports that a review of security video which recorded an incidence of residential vandalism led to the identification of a suspect, the detective reports that the suspect was not immediately found but a message was left with his mother, the detective reports that while he was at court on an unrelated matter a probation officer called to inquire about the suspect who was in court with his mother seeking to learn why police wanted to speak with him, Steven M. Raskauskas, 17, of 92 Meadow St., was arrested for vandalizing property;
12:16 p.m.: vandalism, West Silver Street, a resident came to the station to report that her vehicle was vandalized overnight, the responding officer reports a deep scratch was found extending along the passenger side of the vehicle, the woman said that the vehicle had not been damaged when she parked it the night before;
12:21 p.m.: traffic complaint, Wyben Road, a trucker reports his tractor-trailer unit pulled down wires, the responding officer reports the responding G&E workers asked that the cable company be notified as cable and power wires are tangled, Southampton police were asked to close off their end of Wyben Road, a second tractor-trailer unit happened upon the scene and became mired, a cable crew joined the G&E crew at 2:17 p.m. to help remove the wires;
3:19 p.m.: traffic complaint, Apple Blossom Lane, a caller reports the roadway opened up and his vehicle is now in a sinkhole, the responding officer reports that the SUV’s front end was resting on the pavement while the front right tire was in a two foot deep hole, a tow truck was able to hoist the vehicle out of the hole and DPW workers encircled the hole with traffic barrels pending repair, see photo in the Thursday edition of The Westfield News;
3:21 p.m.: fire, Shaker Road at Little River Road, a caller reports wires are burning and flames are showing, the responding officer reports traffic signals have failed as a result of the electrical problem, the G&E was notified;
5:14 p.m.: larceny, Broad Street, a banker came to the station to report that a customer cashed a fraudulent check at the bank, the responding officer reports that the complainant said that a customer opened a bank account with a check and when she was informed that the check had cleared withdrew the funds, the man said that the check was subsequently found to have not been paid, the officer reports the customer said that that she does not understand what has happened, the officer advised the complainant that the incident is a civil issue and no police action is appropriate;
8:07 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at 58 mph in a 40 mph zone, the officer reports the vehicle was stopped and the operator’s license was found to be suspended, criminal complaints for operating with a suspended license and speeding were filed and the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard.
