Emergency Response and Crime Report
WESTFIELD

7:55 a.m.: narcotics violation, Canal Drive at Shaker Road, a detail officer reports a drug violation, a city ordinance violation citation was filed;
8:07 a.m.: vandalism, Fowler Street, a caller reports a window of his SUV was smashed overnight, the responding officer reports the caller showed him a rock found inside the caller’s vehicle which had apparently been used to shatter a window of the vehicle, the victim said that he suspects the vandalism is in response to a complaint he made about noisy skateboarders earlier in the morning;
8:31 a.m.: counterfeiting, Elm Street, a caller reports a customer attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill, the responding officer reports his investigation suggests that the man did not know the currency was bogus and no criminal intent was found, the bill was seized and the owner was advised of the process to recover his money from the bank which originally gave him the counterfeit bill;
10:52 a.m.: a resident came to the station to complain that his pickup truck was broken into overnight, the responding officer reports he parked and locked his truck in his driveway about 7 p.m. and about 10:15 a.m. he found that a rubber window gasket had been damaged and his stereo’s speakers had been stolen;
11:23 a.m.: vandalism, Murray Avenue, a resident came to the station to report a mustard-like substance had been thrown on her vehicle overnight, the resident said that the substance was washed off and no formal report is necessary;
11:42 a.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a caller reports that three youths stole merchandise from the store, the responding officer reports the victim said that three boys had been in the store and stole three tee shirts, the caller said that when confronted the boys fled on bicycles, the officer reports a search of the area did not reveal any suspects;
4:33 p.m.: breaking and entering, State Street, a caller reports two boys are breaking into a neighbor’s house, the responding officer reports windows of a garage posted “no trespassing” were broken and access appeared have been gained, two boys who fit the description provided by the caller was found nearby and fled from the officer, the boys were detained and one was found to have cuts on his hands consistent with breaking a window, the officer reports one f the boys was found to be in possession of a bottle of vodka, a quantity of marijuana and scales, a 14-year-old juvenile boy was arrested for being delinquent by reason of breaking and entering a building in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, for possession of a Class D drug with intent to distribute, for vandalizing property, for a drug violation near a school or park, for trespass, and for being a person younger than the legal drinking age in possession of liquor, a 15-year-old juvenile boy was boy was arrested for being delinquent by reason of breaking and entering a building in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, for vandalizing property and for trespass, see photo in Thursday’s edition of The Westfield News;
5:26 p.m.: disturbance, Main Street, a caller reports two men are fighting in a parking lot, the responding officer reports he found one of the combatants who said that he had said “Hello” to an unknown man who responded by pulling a bottle out of his cart and striking his head with it, the officer reports the man was bleeding and covered with blood but declined medical assistance, see 8:02 p.m. entry;
7:26 p.m.: narcotics violation, Jefferson Street, a caller reports a relative left drug paraphernalia in her bathroom, the responding officer reports he disposed of a crack pike;
8:02 p.m.: suspicious person, Main Street, a caller reports a named person is walking in the area with a baseball bat looking for a person who assaulted him earlier, the responding officer reports the man was found with an aluminum baseball bat and said that he was going to find his assailant, the officer reports the bat was seized;
8:51 p.m.: assist citizen, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington Street, a resident came to the station to surrender live ammunition, the shotgun shells were transferred to the evidence officer for proper disposal.
