Karen Fitzgerald Murphy

HARWICH – Karen Fitzgerald Murphy, age 66, of Harwich, died peacefully after a long illness on June 20th, 2017. Born in Schenectady, NY, Karen grew up in Westfield and Scituate, MA. Karen is predeceased by her parents Barbara (Gray) Fitzgerald and former Boston Globe sportswriter Raymond Michael Fitzgerald. She is also predeceased by her beloved grandmother, Katherine Halloran Fitzgerald (Nanny) and grandfather Ray Fitzgerald. She leaves her brothers Kevin Fitzgerald and his wife Cissy, Michael Fitzgerald and his wife Mary Ann, and sister Eileen (Fitzgerald) Sullivan and her husband Steve. She also leaves her adored nieces and nephews Greg and his wife Ali, Ellen and her husband Tavish, Keith and his wife Marguerite, Jill, Erin, Pete, and Colleen and great nephew and nieces, Evan, Shealyn and Fiona. Karen worked the past several years with Hub International and will be missed by her work family.  Karen spent her life moving, searching for her perfect home, her favorite locations being Westfield, North Conway and Portsmouth, NH and eventually settling in the Harwich/Chatham area. She lived a quiet, peaceful life, and could be counted on by her many friends in times of need and celebration.  Karen loved photographing the sea, sunsets and seagulls. She loved traveling and knocking about gift shops. She adored her cats and would start up a conversation with anyone’s dog.  Above all she enjoyed celebrating Christmas with her Family.

A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held later in the summer in Westfield, MA. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in honor of Karen Murphy to “Animal Rescue League of Brewster”,  3981 Main Street, Brewster, MA 02631.
