Little League District 2 Tournament action on Sunday

Westfield National 17, Agawam 2

Westfield National took care of Agawam 17-2 in four innings in the 9-10 year old bracket.

Joshua Wagner, George Kimball, and Paul Lawry all contributed with doubles for Westfield National. Wagner started on the mound for Westfield National and Jacob Mello came in relief for Wagner.

Westfield American 9, Longmeadow 4

Westfield National scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning in order to power past Longmeadow and earn the 9-4 win in the 10-11 year old bracket.

“It was an nice win,” said Manager Tom Flaherty. “It was good to see the bats come alive.”

Colby LaPoint led the way for Westfield American, going 3-for-3 with three RBI’s. Patrick Flaherty also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Longmeadow was able to start off the game 3-0 when Jim Chadwell led off the game with a single and followed by Garrett Hannah and Brady Fellows reaching base on errors. Robbie Croteau also delivered for Longmeadow with an RBI single.

Northampton 4, Westfield Juniors 3

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Northampton was able to tag up from third base to home plate off a fly ball from center field and earn the 4-3 victory over the Westfield Juniors.

Westfield Juniors tied the game up at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning when Matt Beattie’s sacrificed hit to the shortstop was able to score Mike Durkee.

Durkee led the Westfield Juniors offense by going 2-for-3 with a single and a triple. Beattie and Will Brewster combined for four strikeouts and four hits in seven innings on the mound.
