WESTFIELD – W.A.R.M. (Welcoming and Assisting Refugee Ministry) is set to host another community gathering to bring more information and awareness to the public about refugees settling in the local area.

Taking place on May 11 from 6: 30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, the event is titled, “The Refugee Experience: In Their Own Words.”

A panel discussion will occur with three American citizens and refugees from the local area. Each of them have been settled here anywhere from seven to 20 years.

Shirley Anderson, a member of W.A.R.M. who helps organize the community gatherings, is looking forward to the guest speakers.

“I am excited to have these people share their stories, they’re remarkable people, just remarkable,” said Anderson.

W.A.R.M. is hopeful that the panel discussion will have a positive effect on those who attend the event.

“I think that people will come away with a greater appreciation for what the refugees have gone through,” said Anderson.

In a flyer that W.A.R.M. created for the community gathering, it is noted that the three members of the panel discussion represent different countries of origin, generations, and religions.

The format for the event will be a question and answer, followed by refreshments once the panel discussion is finished.
