Kali Ava Szatrowski of Westfield Receives Award at Clemson University
CLEMSON, SC – Kali Ava Szatrowski of Westfield was honored by the Clemson University College of Business and Behavioral Science at its annual awards ceremony. Szatrowski, who is a senior majoring in Management (Human Resources) with a minor in Psychology, received the Management Faculty Academic Excellence Award in Human Resource Management . She is the daughter of Tom and Gail Szatrowski. The college celebrated its Honors and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 13, with more than 300 family and friends attending.

Krystle Schultz Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
BATON ROUGE, LA – The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to announce that Krystle Schultz of Westfield was recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Schultz is pursuing a degree at University of Rhode Island. Schultz is among approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction. Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine and headquartered in Baton Rouge, La., Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. The Society has chapters on more than 300 college and university campuses in North America and the Philippines. Its mission is “To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”

Emmanuel College Announces Fall 2012 Dean’s List
BOSTON – Emmanuel College in Boston recently announced the recipients of Dean’s List awards for the fall 2012 semester, which included local student Laura M. Ziter of Westfield. Students earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are awarded the distinction of Dean’s List. Emmanuel College, founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1919, is a coed, residential, Catholic liberal arts and sciences college located in the heart of the city of Boston. Its beautiful 17-acre campus is neighbored by a world-class medical center, two major art museums and Fenway Park. Its unique location allows students and faculty opportunities to explore real world experiences through internships, research and strategic partnerships within the Longwood Medical area and the city of Boston.

Jacob Pelinsky of Southwick Named to Lycoming College’s Dean’s List
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Jacob Pelinsky of Southwick, a senior majoring in criminal justice, was named to Lycoming College’s Dean’s List for the spring 2013 semester. The Dean’s List is issued at the close of each semester in recognition of superior scholarship. Students make the Dean’s List if they complete at least 12 semester hours and earn a minimum grade point average of 3.50 for the semester.

Hutchison and Maldonado Honored at Student Media Festival at Western New England University
SPRINGFIELD – Virginia Maldonado of Westfield was honored during Western New England University’s 11th annual Student Media Festival. A junior majoring in Communication, Maldonado received 3rd place in the PSA/TV Commercial Jury Award category for her submission titled “Anti-Smoking.” Maldonado’s submission was judged by local media professionals. Jamie Hutchison of Westfield was honored during Western New England University’s 11th annual Student Media Festival. A senior graduating with a degree in Sport Management, Hutchison received 3rd place in the PSA/TV Commercial People’s Choice Award category for her submission titled “Drinking and Driving.” The Student Media Festival was created to provide students a venue to display their works to fellow students, faculty, staff, and the public so that students can be recognized for their successes in creating quality films and videos over the past year.

Area Students Named to Champlain College Dean’s List
BURLINGTON, VT – The following area residents have been named to the Spring 2013 Dean’s List at Champlain College, a private accalaureate institution, located in Burlington, Vt.. It is a national leader in educating students through its unique program that prepares students for life beyond college with a mix of professional training, academic enrichment and cultural immersion.
The honored students are:
Emma Crockett of Westfield,  majoring in Professional Writing.
Spencer Martin of Blandford,  majoring in Computer Science and Innovation.

Army Spec. Michael W. McGovern has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. McGovern is a 2007 graduate of Westfield High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2011 from Westfield State University.
