Many reasons to ‘camp’ at ‘Y’

WESTFIELD – The YMCA of Greater Westfield is gearing up for one blazing hot summer.

Sports of all kinds for kids of all ages are set to tip-off at Westfield Y, and everyone is welcome to join, the Y’s youth sports director George Hart said Wednesday.

The Westfield ‘Y’ is now accepting registrations for its newest sports camps, including high school basketball, high school volleyball, disc golf, flag rugby, and “Try 4 Sports”; as well as old-time favorites youth basketball, competitive basketball, tennis, and 4 for 4 Baseball.

Try 4 Sports is a combination of track and field, tennis, golf, and flag rugby.

“The amount of youth sports we offer is numerous,” Hart said. “It’s a way for kids to stay active and healthy, and a valuable experience to prepare for high school sports.”

According to Hart, the programs provide youths a positive environment to receive quality instruction and practice in proper fundamentals by experienced camp directors who are “caring, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic.”

There is a low ratio of staff to players, safe facilities, contests, activities, awards, and games designed for the development of skills, teamwork, character values, and, of course, fun, he said.

And safety is the organization’s number one concern, Hart added.
