Martha A. Parsons

WESTFIELD:  Martha A (Pothier) Parsons, 80, (1935-2016) passed away Thursday January 21, 2016 in Noble Hospital. Born November 6, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Vivian (Brouillet) Pothier. She lived in Enfield, CT for 32 years and resided in Westfield for the past 23 years.  After high school, Martha married the love of her life, Wallace Parsons, and they were married for nearly 62 years. During that time, she became Co-Owner and Sewing Instructor of Parsons Sewing Center in Holyoke and eventually opening a second store in Enfield, CT.  Martha was a communicant of Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield and was a member of its choir. She was an active member of the American Rose Society and co-founder of the CT Rose Society.  Martha and Wallace exhibited their own roses in shows throughout New England.  She earned the title Consulting Rosarian Emeritus and recently received the Bronze Medal of Honor from the American Rose Society.  Martha and her husband traveled extensively visiting all 50 states and 30 countries. She will be sadly missed.  Martha’s family wish to thank the Visiting Nurses of Noble Hospital for the wonderful care she received.
She leaves her husband Wallace along with 2 sons; John W Parsons of Egg Harbor, NJ and James L Parsons of Elmont, NY; 4 brothers, Paul L Pothier of Holyoke, Phillip A Pothier of Granville, Peter J Pothier of Big Bear CA., and Raymond H Pothier of Southampton, MA; 2 sisters, Mary Pothier of NY and Katherine Westmoreland of Canton, CT; along with many nieces and nephews. Martha was predeceased by her brother Leon Pothier.
Martha’s funeral will take place Wednesday January 27, 2016 at 9 am from the Robert E Cusack Funeral Home, 94 Main St (Rt 20) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Church, Holyoke Rd. Burial will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery with reception to follow at the Elk’s Lodge, all in Westfield. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-7 pm.
