Owls crunch Cadets

WSUWESTFIELD – Senior guard Andre King (Suffield Academy/Springfield, Mass.) scored 19 points to lead four Owls in double figures, as Westfield State doubled up Norwich University, 82-41 in men’s basketball at the Woodward Center on Wednesday night.
Westfield used trapping full-court pressure to jump out to a 32-15 lead late in the first half, but the Cadets answered with six straight points at the end of the first half to cut the lead to 32-21 at the break.
The Owls took control in the second half, opening the stanza with a punishing 27-6 spurt over the first 8:22 to grab a 59-27 lead and salt the game away.
King scored 13 of his 19 points in that span, capping the big run with a three-pointer. Sophomore guard Jesus Sanchez (Holderness/Springfield, Mass.) added 11 points in that run as well.
Westfield forced 24 turnovers, garnering 16 steals.
Sanchez totaled 16 points five assists and four steals, Robbie Jones (Chicopee/Chicopee, Mass.) scored 12 and made five steals to go with four assists. Junior forward Brian Foley (St. Peter Marian/Worcester, Mass.) came off the bench to score 11 points and grab five rebounds for Westfield (2-1).
Norwich was led by 12 points and seven rebounds from freshman Ryan Booth (U-32/Northfield, Vt.). Mike Hogervorst (Holderness/Leiden, Netherlands) and Kevin Ross (Ontario Christian/Ontario, Cal.) each added six points.
The Cadets fall to 2-1 with the loss.
