WESTFIELD – Owners of Paddy’s Irish Pub are closing their doors next week and said they have themselves to blame, not other businesses in the city.
“We’ve had a lot of turnover in management and haven’t been able to get back our momentum,” said Thomas Murphy, who owns the pub with business partner Daniel Dineen.
“We’ve lacked consistency and we’re not operating at the standard we expect,” he said.
Murphy and Dineen also own Murphy’s in Agawam, Paddy’s in Springfield, and three Amherst pubs.
Murphy said Paddy’s in Westfield is “one of our nicest bars” and they did not want to tarnish the brand by remaining open while operating on a sub-standard level.
“The last year has been tough and we need to re-evaluate the business,” said Murphy, adding that there is the possibility of re-opening in the future.
“Our real estate group owns the property at 110-112 Elm Street and we hope if we do not open there, we can hand it off to someone who can do it justice.”
Murphy said he and Dineen chose the location because they believed Westfield was a good place to be, and they still do.
“We think Westfield offers a lot of opportunity. We just didn’t seize it,” Murphy said. “We still think there is opportunity here.”
Paddy’s Irish Pub will close at midnight Jan. 11. Murphy said anyone with gift certificates should use them by closing because they are not transferrable to other locations.
“We want to thank the people who have supported us,” he added.
