Emergency Response and Crime Report
WESTFIELD
Friday, Dec. 21, 2012
2:28 p.m.: officer wanted, Klondike Ave., a resident came to the station to complain of threatening phone calls from a known party, the responding officer reports he found that the woman and the caller have a history of ongoing issues;
3:42 p.m.: identity fraud, Wild Flower Circle, a resident came to he station to report that he received an acknowledgement from his credit card company of a change of address he had not initiated, the responding officer reports the man said that when he contacted the credit card company he learned that an account had been opened in his name in October and unpaid charges were made in Indiana and Ohio, the account was closed;
5:33 p.m.: suspicious person, Russell Road, a caller reports a male party who is not wearing trousers is at his door asking for transport to hospital, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the man said that he had been trying to retrieve his inflatable boat and took off his pants to keep them dry, the man said that he lost control of the boat which floated away with his trousers, the man was transported to Noble Hospital by fire department ambulance;
7:20 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Pleasant Street, a traffic bureau officer reports stopping a vehicle with an overly loud exhaust system, the officer reports the operator verbally identified himself but when confronted by a Registry of Motor Vehicles photo which did not match his appearance provided his real name, the man was found to have a suspended license and to be the subject of two outstanding warrants, Edgar E. Correa, 25, of 22 Better Way, Springfield, was arrested for being a motor vehicle operator who refuses to identify himself, for operating a motor vehicle with an improper exhaust system, operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker, failure to use a seat belt, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license ( a subsequent offense), a motor vehicle lights violation and on the two warrants.
9:52 p.m.: vandalism, Roosevelt Avenue, a caller reports a person in a vehicle with a loud exhaust struck his mailbox with a bat, the responding officer reports minor damage to the mailbox, a search of the area did not reveal a vehicle with a loud exhaust;
9:53 p.m.: breaking and entering, St. James Avenue, a caller reports her home was broken into, property was stolen and she is concerned that the intruder may be present, the responding officer reports no strangers were in the house, the officer reports the resident said that she left about 5:15 p.m. and returned minutes before she called police to find a door with a broken pane of glass was ajar, the victim said that her bedroom had been ransacked and jewelry valued at several thousand dollars had been stolen;
9:55 p.m.: loitering, Grandmothers Garden, Smith Avenue, a caller reports a group of youths are in the park making noise, the responding officer reports youths fled when he approached but one dropped a partially full bottle of liquor, a search of the area revealed four girls on Malone Avenue who provided the first name of the boy who had dropped the bottle and were advised of that city parks are closed from dusk to dawn, the girls were sent on their ways;
10:00 p.m.: animal complaint, Meadow Street, a caller reports taking custody of a small dog with a leash and harness but no tags, the responding animal control officer reports the brown Chihuahua dog mix was transported to the municipal animal shelter

2:23 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Union Street, a patrol officer reports she observed a vehicle parked about 200 feet from the roadway near the salt piles, the officer reports the vehicle was running and was in gear but the operator appeared to be asleep, the officer reports she was able to rouse the man with difficulty and when he exited the vehicle she took it out of gear, the man displayed obvious symptoms of alcohol intoxication and acknowledged drinking three beers, the man failed a field sobriety test, Jose A. Ramos, 186 Joseph Ave., was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and for a marked lanes violation;
3:29 a.m.: suspicious person, City View Boulevard, a caller reports a friend jumped into the river following an argument with her roommate, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the woman declined ambulance assistance but both the caller and her friend were transported to the hospital by police cruiser;
10:20 a.m.: assist citizen, Margerie Street, a caller requests an officer to standby while she checks issues with her tenants, the responding officer reports the caller made her inspection without incident;
10:46 a.m.: assist citizen Pontoosic Road, a caller requests an officer to assist while he gathers some of his belongings, the responding officer reports the man took possession of his property without incident;
12:49 p.m.: larceny Governor’s Center, 66 Broad St., a caller reports money was stolen from a resident, the responding officer reports the caller said that sometime since Dec. 14 more than $40 in cash was stolen from a resident’s night table;
2:05 p.m.: fire, Sackett Road, a caller reports neighbors are burning outside, the responding firefighters report the resident in question was advised of the pertinent city ordinances and extinguished his fire;
2:15 p.m.: breaking and entering, Holland Avenue, a caller reports a basement window was kicked in, the responding officer reports a real estate agent said that she went to the vacant residence to prepare it for rental and found a door open, the responding officer reports the caller said that she investigated to find that a basement window had been pushed open and there were signs that somebody have been in the house but nothing was found to be missing;
2:29 p.m.: vandalism, Briarcliff Drive, a resident came to the station to report her vehicle was vandalized, the responding officer reports the complainant said that she parked her car in front of a friend’s house about 10 p.m. and returned the next morning to find the windshield had been shattered, the officer noted that the crater in the windshield indicated a sizable rock had been used to break the glass;
4:59 p.m.: assist citizen, Bates Road, a resident came to the station to request an officer to assist while she attempts to retrieve some belongings from a former address, the responding officer reports the woman took possession of her property without incident;
9:14 p.m.: disturbance, East Main Street, a caller reports a disturbance behind an East Main Street restaurant, the responding officer reports the altercation was inside, the officer reports one party said that a co-worker had struck him with a fry basket and the second party said that he struck the other man with the fry basket because the other man had a knife, witnesses said that no knife was seen, Ivan Rivera, 47, of 199 Belmont St., Springfield, was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a fry basket;
11:07 p.m.: animal complaint, Shaker Road, a caller reports striking a deer with his pickup truck, the responding officer reports the operator said that he struck a small deer, the deer had expired, a person who is usually willing to take deer struck by vehicles was notified and came to take possession of the carcass.
