Emergency Response and Crime Report
WESTFIELD
Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012
1:10 a.m.: disturbance, Arnold Street, multiple callers report about 15 persons are fighting outside an Arnold Street bar, the responding officer reports he found a group of about 15 person but the male party who had been asked to leave the bar and allegedly created the disturbance had left the area, a man fitting the suspect’s description was found on Elm Street and acknowledged that he had been in the bar in question, the man was obviously intoxicated and said he was a visitor to the city, the man said that he was planning to spend the night at a different bar and was placed in protective custody;
3:23 a.m.; found property, Arnold Street, a patrol officer reports finding a “No parking” sign leaning against a building, the officer reports the sign was transported to the station for return to the DPW;
10:05 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Bates Road, a traffic enforcement officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed and used radar to determine it was traveling at 45 mph in a 30 mph zone, the vehicle was stopped and the operator told the officer that his license had been suspended, Mark S. Michel, of 265 New Ludlow Road, Chicopee, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and for speeding in violation of special regulations;
11:38 a.m.: animal complaint, Morningside Drive, the director of animal control operations reports he assisted squirrel which fell and impaled itself in a fence, the director reports the animal was freed and left the area;
12:29 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a traffic bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and non-renewable, the vehicle was towed;
12:36 p.m.: larceny, Washington Street, a resident came to the station to report cash was stolen from a fraternal lodge, the responding officer reports the bar manager of a social club reported that the bar receipts from the previous night were locked in a safe after the bar closed but are now missing, the responding officer reports the complainant said that several members have keys to both the building and the safe, the case was referred to the detective bureau;
2:09 p.m.: vandalism, Union Street, a caller reports the basement of a vacant house appears to have been intentionally flooded, see story in the Thursday edition of The Westfield News;
6:47 p.m.: breaking and entering, Valley View Drive, a caller reports coming home to find her house had been broken into, the responding officer reports the resident said that she left about 1 p.m. and when she returned minutes before she called police she observed a pane of glass in a door had been broken and the door was open, the responding officer reports the caller showed him a bedroom which had been ransacked and several jewelry cases which had been emptied;

Monday, Dec. 24, 2012
12:39 a.m.: vandalism, Western Avenue, two callers independently report that two teenaged male parties are in the process of vandalizing the stone wall bordering Stanley Park, the responding officer reports two youths were found in the area who were positively identified by both callers as the persons who were yelling and throwing large stones removed from the wall, Nathan D. Curtin, 24, of 40 Heritage Lane, and Brandon A. Callahan, 20, of 28 Russell Road, were each arrested for vandalizing property and for disturbing the peace;
2:18 a.m.: assist citizen, Main Street, a caller reports he has been trapped in an elevator for the past 20 minutes, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports that firefighters were able to extricate the man from a service elevator who reported no injuries;
11:40 a.m.: vandalism, Pleasant Street, a caller reports a BB is stuck in window of his home, the responding officer reports the caller said that his wife heard a noise the night before and in the morning he found that a BB had struck and holed a front window, the BB was found on the window sill;
11:56 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Main Street, an off duty officer reports he observed female party smoking marijuana in a vehicle which is also occupied by a young child, the responding officer reports the vehicle was stopped and he found that the car’s registration had been revoked for lack of insurance, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
3:02 p.m.: accident, North Road at Old County Road, Holyoke police report a two car crash at the intersection, the responding officer reports that one of the operators involved in the property damage accident was found to have a suspended license and a criminal complaint was filed;
7:59 p.m.: disturbance, Kellogg Street, a caller reports her former husband came to her residence where he attempted to assault her and threatened to kill herself and her child, the responding officer reports the woman said that her former husband returned about a half hour after he dropped off their son and when the boy opened the door slightly his father pushed his way inside and started to chase the caller while threatening to kill her and the boy, the officer reports he was able to speak with man by telephone later in the day and the man denied the allegations, criminal complaints for assault and battery in a domestic relationship and for breaking and entering with intent to commit a misdemeanor were filed;
8:37 p.m.: accident, City View Road, a caller reports a tree fell on a car, the responding officer reports a six to eight foot limb fell from a rotting tree on the property and damaged the vehicle;
9:59 p.m.: disturbance, Main Street, a patrol officer reports he was flagged down by a male party at a gas station who said that he had been assaulted by two men who were seen walking away, the officer reports a witness who left the area without leaving him any contact information supported the complaint, the man was advised that since the officer did not witness any assault no charges will be filed by the officer but he was told that he can seek a criminal complaint at the District Court, the suspects were advised that the man might be filing a complaint;
11:38 p.m.; breaking and entering, Miller Street, caller reports his home was broken into and property was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that he left his home about 5:30 p.m. and returned about 11:40 p.m. to find a side door wide open, the man said he checked and found that collectible coins had been stolen;

Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012
11:08 a.m.: disturbance, Powder Mill Village, 126 Union St., a caller reports her husband has been physically assaulting her all morning but has left the apartment, the responding officer reports he encountered a male party outside the residence who said that he had been awakened by his wife to continue an ongoing argument and when he started to gather a few things so he could leave she started shouting at him and punched him, neither party wished to pursue criminal charges and the male party agreed to leave the residence for the day;
6:54 p.m.: fire, Linden Avenue, a caller reports an electrical fire behind his washing machine, the responding firefighters report an older pipe warming apparatus showed signs of multiple short circuits and arcing but had been doused by the resident and was no longer a threat, a thermal imaging device was used to check for signs of additional fire but none were found.
