1:49 a.m.: assist resident, Noble Hospital, 115 W. Silver St., a caller from the hospital requests a courtesy transport for a discharged patient, the responding officer reports a courtesy transport was provided to a Murphy Circle address;
2:01 a.m.: larceny, King Street, a caller reports jewelry was stolen from her home, the responding officer reports the complainant said that someone entered her apartment in the previous 12 hours and stole her jewelry valued about $250, the woman said that a former boyfriend had made vague threats to steal from her, the officer found no sign of forcible entry and notes that the woman had reported the theft of cash from her apartment on Sunday;
3:47 a.m.: suspicious person, Meadow Street, a tractor-trailer driver reports a man threw snowballs at his vehicle while he was operating on Meadow Street, the responding officer reports he arrived in the area to find a man who fit the complainant’s description and the man discarded something when he saw the officer, the office inspected the man’s hands and concluded that they had recently been in the snow, the officer found the discarded item to be soda bottle which contained liquor, a city ordinance violation citation for possession of an open container of alcohol in public was filed;
8:42 a.m.: animal complaint, Squawfield Road, a caller reports she has taken custody of a stray dog, the responding animal control officer reports she took custody of a cream colored intact male Shiba inu dog and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
10:52 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Prospect Street at Jeremy Drive, a patrol officer reports he was advised of sidewalks which have not been properly cleared, the officer reports nobody was home at two residences adjacent to sidewalks which need attention so he left a warning notice at each address;
11:44 a.m.: found property, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., a patrol officer reports a wallet apparently owned by a Billerica resident was found under a seat in a police cruiser, the officer reports he was unable to immediately contact the man and the wallet was stored for safekeeping;
12:13 p.m.: fire, Sadie Lane at East Mountain Road, a caller reports his tow truck is on fire and his fire extinguisher is inoperable, the responding fire captain reports that the fire had “self extinguished” prior to his arrival, the tow truck was towed from the scene;
1:35 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Franklin Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without registration plates and stopped the pickup truck, the operator said that the vehicle usually bears repair plates and a co-worker must have forgotten to affix them, the truck was towed to the police impound yard and the operator was provided a courtesy transport to the police department, a co-worker brought the appropriate paperwork to the station and the truck was released to the operator;
7:13 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports a routine check revealed the operator to be the subject of a 2013 warrant issued by Springfield District Court, Samantha L. Liptak, 31, of 100 Whitaker Road, was arrested on the warrant;
9:16 p.m.: officer wanted, Tekoa Mountain Apartments, 700 Russell Road, a caller reports laundry was stolen from the laundry room, the responding officer reports the caller said that her towels were missing from the laundry room but she does not require a formal report, the woman said that she wants the incident to be documented and will attempt to determine if a neighbor took her towels by mistake;
11:19 p.m.: parking violation, Hanover Street, a patrol supervisor reports he encountered a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway with the wheels about three feet away from the curb, the officer reports he spoke with a neighbor who could not identify the owner but said that the car is frequently parked similarly, a citation was issued.
