1:12 a.m.: disturbance, Arnold Street, a caller reports a fight between patrons in a bar, the responding officer reports he arrived to find an unconscious man on the ground was the center of attention of about 50-60 people who temporarily obstructed Arnold Street, witnesses said that the man had been punched when he attempted to intervene and stepped between two patrons who appeared to be about to fight, witnesses said that after the victim fell to the ground unconscious the suspect then punched the man he had originally been in dispute with and fled, the suspect was found on Chapel Street, Tyler Jones, 23, of 67 Lakeside St., Springfield, was arrested for assault and battery with serious injury and for disorderly conduct;
2:37 a.m.: assault, Elm Street, a caller reports a fight in progress at a Main Street gas station and convenience store, the responding officer reports he arrived to observe a male party yelling at a group of people who fled when his cruiser came into view, the officer reports he gave chase and found the suspect hiding on Chapel Street, witnesses said that the 17-year-old youth had created a disturbance in the store and struck a clerk while being escorted from the store, the youth was arrested for being delinquent by reason of assault and battery and by reason of disorderly conduct;
9:41 a.m.: larceny, Western Avenue, a caller reports political signs were stolen from her yard, the woman said that similar signs were removed a few weeks ago, the caller does not require a formal report but wants her loss to be documented;
10:37 a.m.: breaking and entering, Ponders Hollow Road, a caller reports she left her home unlocked for about an hour and returned to find property had been stolen, the responding officer reports that the complainant said that she received a call from her estranged husband who said that he was stranded in Springfield and needed a ride, the woman said that she agreed to go get him and left a rear door unlocked as she did not have a key, the woman said that before she got to Springfield she received a text message from her husband who said that he no longer needed a ride and when she returned home she found a television missing and subsequently found tools were also stolen, the woman said that she believes her husband (who knows that she does not have a key) set her up so he and his new girlfriend could steal from her;
11:19 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Western Avenue, a code enforcement officer reports he was advised of an illegal sign attached to a utility pole and removed it, the officer reports there was no response at the address associated with the sign;
11:34 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Court Street, a Traffic Bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
11:57 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Western Avenue, a Traffic Bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
3:25 p.m.: traffic violation, Southampton Road, a caller reports a vehicle operating on Southampton Road is traveling at a high rate of speed as it passes vehicles in the breakdown lane and was seen to drive over a business’s lawn causing significant damage, the responding officer reports an off-duty officer pointed out the damage and said that the vehicle had been seen driving erratically in the parking lot, the officer reports he was unable to locate the vehicle and a criminal complaint was filed against the owner of the pickup truck;
3:37 p.m.: fraud, Pilgrim Drive, a resident came to the station to complain that his debit card was used fraudulently in Canada, the responding officer reports the man said that his debit card was declined and he checked to find that five transactions totaling more than $500 were made in Canada including a transaction made the same day he made a legitimate transaction in Westfield, the case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the Detective Bureau;
6:26 p.m.: disturbance, Edgewood Apartments, 134 Union St., a caller reports that about 30 youths came to his apartment and tried to break in in order to harm his daughter, the responding officer reports that the incident is the continuation of a dispute between two girls which a school resource officer is already aware of, a community policing officer said that he will encourage the management of the apartment complex to issue ‘No trespassing’ orders to the non-resident parties in the dispute;
7:20 p.m.: larceny, North Road, an East Longmeadow resident came to the station to report cash was stolen from her mother at an assisted living facility, the responding officer reports that she had left an envelope containing cash for her mother’s activities in her locked medication safe and it is now missing, the responding officer reports the woman said that’s she believes one of the aides who administers her mother’s medication is responsible for the missing cash, the officer reports the facility has instituted an in-house investigation;
9:57 p.m.: vandalism, Washington Street, a caller from a Westfield State University housing facility reports a young man punched out a window, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports he arrived to find a resident assistant speaking with a male party with a bloody hand holding a can of beer, the young man had two additional cans of beer in his pockets and acknowledged that he had punched out a window later valued at $500, the man declined medical assistance, Griffin T. Fontana, 19, of 38 Riverside Place, Walpole, was arrested for vandalizing property and for being a person younger than the legal drinking age in possession of liquor.
