Police response nets city councilor

WESTFIELD – City police were called to the top of Drugstore Hill Saturday for a report of persons tampering with the scene of an accident but found instead a city councilor trying to improve his ward.
An anonymous caller spoke with an emergency dispatcher 15 at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and said that two people were at the traffic circle at the beginning of Montgomery Street where a tractor trailer unit had crashed weeks earlier and the caller said that the couple did not look as if they were city workers. The caller suggested that the couple might be interfering with the evidence of the crash site.
Officer Michael Gibbons was dispatched to the accident scene and found that the suspicious characters included City Councilor Christopher Keefe, councilor for Ward 1, which includes the area in question.
Gibbons reports that Keefe was not tampering with evidence but was instead picking up debris from the accident in his effort to clean up his ward.
