I have a question maybe someone can answer for me. Is it legal for someone plowing out a parking lot to push the snow into the street and block someone’s driveway? Today I went out and shoveled the end of my driveway so I could get out. I came in to take a break. I then heard someone plowing so I looked out my front window. There was a truck plowing out the parking lot for The Mill and Jelly Belly on Crane Ave. and pushing the snow into the street. I patiently watched him push the snow to the opposite side of the street blocking my driveway and my neighbors. I thought OK, he will come back and push the snow he put in my driveway and clear it. My drive is directly across from the entrance to the Mill. I watched while he cleared the parking for the Mill on the street and waited hoping he would clean the mess he made. I was trying to stay positive and believe he would do the right thing. He didn’t. Is there a law or ordinance that prevents people from doing this? I can understand the city not having to do it, but what about private contractors paid by businesses? Next time I will call the Mill or the police.

Dear Pulse Line, I hope you can help. I am a resident of Southwick and not sure whom this should be addressed to but I assume it should be Karl Stinehart the Chief Administrative Officer. Our flag raising and lowering is a disaster. The days following the Newtown CT attack our flags at the police and fire station were both 1/2 staff and full staff. Then days later the fire department lowered theirs and then the police raised theirs. The flag at Whalley Park was never lowered. If our town fathers need a lesson in flag etiquette I am sure the American Legion would be more than happy to help. Having a flag requires responsibility I would rather have them not fly one, then fly it wrong.

Hello PulseLine, Did I miss a follow-up on the employee who took money from the clerk’s office at city hall approximately 2 years ago? Could you tell us the outcome of that, pls. Refresh our memory if it was published. The last time I recall seeing an article was when someone inquired about it. Reply from your newspaper was made that it was being investigated. That was two years ago, never a follow up in the paper that I am aware of. Whatever happened???? Susan Duffy Hall appeared in U.S. District Court on Dec. 19, 2012 and admitted to the theft. The full story is here.

Yes, I was reading the paper today, a thing in the PulseLine, about a woman who wrote in about their son having mental illness and about crimes aren’t committed by people with mental illness. Well, I’m a retired prison guard from Somers and I worked there for 30 years and 80 percent of the people committed violent crimes were because they had mental illness.

Hi. I just wanted to thank the people who plowed the vocational school this year. They plowed a whole bunch of snow on to the side of the hill so it prevents the kids from sledding there. Nice job, guys!

Recently someone was asking about where to get shoes repaired in Westfield.  I go to a very nice older gentleman on Arnold Street who has a small shoe repair place that I think is named Your Shoe Repair.  It is across the street from the Maple Inn and there is also a tailor shop and Salvation Army store in the same group of stores on Arnold Street.  He is very reasonable and prompt and does a good job with all repairs and also fixes zippers on purses and any other leather objects that need repair.  Good luck.
