PulseLine: Track & Field and followup

To get the full effect of the PulseLine, listen to the calls at thewestfieldnews.com.

We get the paper each day, for years now, and through the years we have been very interested in the sports news section. In past years we could read about the track teams for both your own town [Westfield] and our town Southwick [sometimes], this year there is nothing. I waited, sensing there are many different sports you are trying to cover during the season, we understand you try to get to all of them at some time. Many of these other sports play several times during the week and it makes sense to see basketball and hockey each day in the paper, but never Indoor track. It’s to bad someone can’t get out there the “only” day [Friday[ of the week to take a few photos to share with your readers, they even list the results [online] of each race, with time and distance, this has never been done in the past, you could stay home and still see how the local kids did in their races/events. Southwick went to Boston [also]in January for the relay races, just like Westfield, there was nothing mentioned, even with the event being the first time in the history of Southwick Indoor track. The results of the schools records are not even listed in the paper????? I hope these comments laid in the lap of someone looking to make changes to improve and move your paper into the future. Thank you for reading! It is not that we don’t appreciate our indoor track athletes but with track meets always held in Northampton we have found it increasingly difficult to cover them when there is an abundance of local sporting events happening right here in town. We have only been able to get a few of the results but continue to reach out to the coaches to help us.

Following up on the questions posed below last week: This is to the DPW: recently, you decided to purchase a new machine to patch the holes in the road. Why is it that we’re not seeing this piece of equipment that you just had to have and made us pay for, why is it not in use? You have a lot of potholes around the city of Westfield. What happened to the other tar machine you had? You never used that either, but you had to get something new. When are we going to see this in operation? It doesn’t take that long to figure out how to use it. The infrared pothole patch machine has been out on projects since it was OKed for use. It was recently out of service for about a week to replace a thermal coupling problem. However, it was out as recently as Tuesday doing work on Hillside and North Road. For the city police: why is it that people who have plows on their vehicles not being told to keep them at an angle, away from traffic. For years, this has been the procedure as you are driving down the road. Otherwise, the plow is sticking over the center line at least a foot to a foot and a half, which can cause damage to other vehicles. It’s also a safety hazard. From the WPD: if, in the course of patrols, an officer finds a plow being operated in an unsafe manner then it will be dealt with on an incident by incident manner. Why is there so many unregistered and uninsured vehicles in the city of Westfield. If you are aware of unregistered/uninsured vehicles then please contact the WPD. Did you or did you not sell the Harley motorcycles? If so, how much money did you get, and where did it go? The WPD informs us that the motorcycles in question were sold and the money added to the WPD general fund.
