WESTFIELD – Ralph A. Mongeau, 89, of Westfield, passed away, at home beside his loving son and longtime caregiver, Jerry, on October 21, 2013, after a long and heroic battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Ralph was born in Springfield, MA on August 11, 1924 to Joseph and Mary (Ahearn) Mongeau.
He was a graduate of the Commerce High School in Springfield and a WWII Naval Veteran who served in the Pacific Theatre. He and his brother, Joe, were founders and co-owners of Westfield ElectroPlating in Westfield from 1946-1984 and Double MB Ranch in Southwick. Ralph spent many summers at Lake Sunapee, NH and retired to Englewood, FL from 1986-2002 where he was an avid fisherman. He loved jazz music, played several instruments, and enjoyed sports of all kinds, but mostly his NY Yankees & Giants, relishing in the chagrin of his extended family.
Ralph was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis (Connor) in 1986, and his daughter, Mary “Paula” in 1984. Besides his son, Gerald Mongeau of Southwick, he leaves his daughter-in-law, Judy Mongeau of Southwick; two granddaughters, Farah Mongeau of Kapaa, Hawaii and Hillary Lawrence of Easthampton; 3 great grandchildren, his sister-in-law Dorothy Mongeau of Southwick, and several nieces and nephews, including Patty (Cady) Christensen of FL, whom he loved like a daughter. Ralph was also predeceased by his sisters, Mildred Heinke and Marie Collins, and his brother and best friend Joseph Mongeau.
A private burial was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Donations in Ralph’s memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
