SPRINGFIELD – The Southwick-Tolland Regional High School softball team staved off all the distractions associated with vacation week and Central, defeating the Golden Eagles 8-7 Tuesday at Blunt Park.
Morgan Harriman hit a 3-run homer in the top of the seventh to rally Southwick.
Rams’ freshman pitcher Emily Lachtara survived one of her toughest outings of the season. Lachtara struck out 11 batters.
“(Central’s) a team that could hit and field,” said Southwick coach Frank Montagna, who was filling in for Todd Downie (vacation). “It was definitely a battle.”
Southwick’s Sidney Rogers went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, Jenn Yellin was 2-for-3, and Sam Burzynski finished 2-for-4 at the plate and made a nice catch in center field.
“It was good for (Southwick) to come from behind,” Montagna said. “It was a nice team effort today.”
