Redistricting Transition Team ready to work

WESTFIELD – At Monday’s School Committee meeting, Westfield Public Schools Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski said the transition team to plan for the redistricting next year has been established, and leadership of the subcommittees put in place
“We fully realize as a leadership team this goal is going to take up a big chunk of our school year,” Czaporowski said.

The leadership team for the transition includes Czaporowski, Ronald R. Rix, chief financial officer, Susan Dargie, director of curriculum, South Middle School principal Paul Newton, Paula Ceglowski, director of Human Resources, School Committee member Diane Mayhew and parent representative Rachel Bullock. The first meeting of the leadership team is scheduled for this Friday, according to Czaporowski.
The list of subcommittees includes Redistrict Students K-4, led by Rix and Pamela Kotarski, director of transportation. Members so far include Mary Claire Manning, principal of Highland Elementary, Fran St. Peter, principal of Franklin Ave., and School Committee vice chair Cynthia Sullivan.
Czaporowski said that he will be reaching out to parents and members of the community who may want to join one of the subcommittees.
The Create a 5-6 Intermediate School subcommittee will be led by Dargie and North Middle School principal Katherine Bourque. Members include Munger Hill principal Salvatore Frieri and Southampton Road principal Kathleen O’Donnell.
Create a 7-8 Middle School subcommittee will be led by South Middle School principal Paul Newton and WPS administrator of student interventions Christopher Rogers. Members include Paper Mill principal Cynthia Kennedy and Westfield Technical Academy principal Joseph Langone.
Reassign and hire staff for Reconfigured Schools will be led by Ceglowski and Denise Ruszala, director of Assessment and Accountability. Members include Adam Garand, WPS administrator of Special Services and Abner Gibbs principal Stacy Burgess.
The Communication Plan subcommittee will be led by Czaporowski and grants director Shannon Barry, with help from WHS principal Charles Jendrysik, Fort Meadow principal Joanne Hentnick, and Russell School principal Alison Hamilton.
