Richard L. White

Westfield – Richard L “Dick” White, 84, of Westfield passed away on May 22, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on August 8, 1932 in Westfield to the late Joseph and Clara (Samson) White.  He attended Westfield Schools and graduated from Westfield Trade School.  After graduation he joined the US Army and served in the Korean War.  He returned to Westfield and worked for Strathmore Paper Company.  Later he became a truck driver and worked for several trucking companies before retiring from Yellow Freight Company in 1990. Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Capan White, his son Richard, Jr. of Westfield and daughters Roberta Newell of Winchester, Kentucky and Wendy White of Middletown, Delaware.  He also leaves his grandchildren with whom he always looked forward to playing cards, R J White and Heather White, both of Westfield, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sisters Alice Chistolini and Lillian Lesniewski and his brothers William, Robert, and Donald White. Dick was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church where he participated in many parish dinners for over 30 years.  An avid card player, he was a member of the Parish Pitch League.  Dick loved spending the winter in Naples, Florida on the beach, at the pool, watching the Red Sox, or playing cards with his many friends.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday May 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield, MA with burial to follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours have been omitted.  Donations in Dick’s memory can be made to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield, MA 01085.
