WINOOSKI, VT. – The Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old All-Stars are one win away from playing for all the marbles.
Westfield staved off elimination by posting a convincing 8-0 win over Burlington (Vt.) in the final game of pool play in the eastern regionals Monday afternoon.
Josh Lis tossed a complete-game, two-hitter as Westfield surged into the top four with a compelling effort.
“We told the kids before the game that we needed to win, and get a shutout and Josh Lis delivered,” Westfield manager Matt Avery said.

Lis was dominant from start to finish. The Westfield pitcher recorded six strikeouts and yielded just two walks.
He was not the only contributor though for the Whip City’s 13-year-old group of Babe Ruth All-Stars.
While Lis also contributed at the plate with two singles, fellow teammates Jack Masciadrelli and Matt Pelletier delivered two hits apiece – Pelletier knocked in four runs with two doubles – and Nathan Collingwood collected three hits and two RBIs.
“(Our kids) scored as many as we asked for and gave up nothing,” Avery said. “It was unbelievable.”
With the resounding victory, Westfield claimed the top spot and will next take on fourth-seeded Arlington (Mass.) Tuesday at 2 p.m.
“We’re in a good spot now,” Avery said. “Now it’s bonus time.”
