WESTFIELD – St. Mary pitcher Matt Hannoush scattered seven hits, struck out two batters, walked one, and allowed no earned runs (four unearned), and the Saints shelled Palmer for 19 hits en route to a 16-4 win in a high school baseball game Wednesday at Bullens Field.
Hannoush also had a stellar day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and an RBI.
It was not a lone effort by a long shot.
“Matt pitched very well, we hit up and down the lineup, and played good defense,” St. Mary coach Troy Collins said.
Jake Butler went 4-for-5 for St. Mary with a double, three runs and three RBIs. Saints’ Shaun Gezotis (2 runs, RBI), Billy Lamirande (walk, 2 runs), Nate Bonini (2 RBIs), and Hunter Authier (walk, run, 2 RBIs) collected two hits apiece.
Matt Masciadrelli doubled, drove in a run, and scored too. John Daley (run), Jack Masciadrelli (walk, run), and Bobby Gonet each also had a hit for St. Mary.
Lamirande pitched two solid shutout innings of relief. He allowed just one hit, and walked none.
“The kids are just playing hard,” coach Collins said. “They’re working hard in practice and it’s showing in games.”
