Sam H. Popovich

WESTFIELD – Sam H. Popovich, 92, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Baystate Noble Hospital. He was born in Elmira Heights, N.Y. to the late Alfred O. and Teresa (Telesch) Popovich. Sam was a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights and received a BS Chemistry Degree from Syracuse University in 1950. Sam served his country with the United Sates Army during World War II, from 1943-1946, with the 14th Armored Division under General Patton. He was employed for over 30 years for Westfield River Paper Company in Russell, MA and retired in 1989 as vice-president and technical director. He was a President of Glassine & Grease Proof Paper Manufacturers Assoc. and Life member of the Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry. Sam was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Pauline T. (Malandra) Popovich in 2012. He is survived by his beloved children, Michael A. Popovich and his wife Cheryl of Westfield, Gary G. Popovich of Granby, TX, Lynn A. Popovich of Jensen Beach, FL and Lisa A. Popovich of Steamboat, CO, and his granddaughter Kim Popovich.

Sam’s funeral will be held on Wednesday with a Funeral Mass at 11:30AM in St. Mary’s Church, Bartlett St. Westfield, followed by Burial with Military Honors in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam. A Visiting hour will precede the mass from 10-11AM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA 01085.
