School budget response

I am a teacher at Westfield High School NOT speaking on condition of anonymity.
I read May 20th’s cover story “School Budget cuts’ impact weighed” in order to learn about the impact of the budgeting process on my workplace. I expected to read about the proposed cuts and an analysis on their educational impact. I did NOT expect to read an anonymous “educator” airing his personal grievances unrelated to the subject of the article. If I had wanted incendiary, unsubstantiated hearsay, I would have read the Pulseline not the front page.
I am professionally embarrassed as an educator that one of my colleagues would demand anonymity in offering his professional opinion. But not surprised considering the unprofessionalism he displayed. I am also concerned about the journalistic practice that leads with a single, disgruntled, unidentified source without any apparent attempt to add balance.
We are all better than this.
