Secretary Galvin to be honored at Westfield Democratic Breakfast

WESTFIELD – Secretary of the Commonwealth William F. Galvin will be honored as Westfield Democrat of the Year at the Westfield Democratic City Committee’s Annual Harvest Breakfast on Sunday, September 24, 2017.  The Breakfast will be held at the Tekoa Country Club, 459 Russel Road, Westfield starting at 9:30am.  The Breakfast will also be a tribute to longtime Democratic City Committee member Norma J. Hill who will be honored as Westfield Democratic City Committee Member of the Year.

Since 1994, in his role as the third- ranked constitutional office in Massachusetts, Secretary Galvin has served as chief information officer of Massachusetts to spotlight issues that affect the average citizen such as fraud in the finance industry and credit card pressures on students.  Secretary Galvin serves as the Commonwealth’s chief election officer, as chair of the Massachusetts Historical Commission, as head of the Massachusetts Corporate Division, state liaison to the US Census Bureau and as the Commonwealth’s chief security regulator. 

Norma J. Hill spent her  life working for Democratic Party principles such as economic justice for all, equal pay for equal work, affordable health care for all,  and adequate funding for the public education system.  She started her Democratic Party work in the early 1990’s when she volunteered and worked on many Democratic campaigns for Municipal, State and Federal elections.   On the national level she was a Clinton delegate to the 1996 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.  She attended both the 2000 and 2004 Democratic National Conventions as a volunteer.   She represented the City of Westfield at the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s annual conventions for 24 years.  From 1996 until her death in 2016, she served as a member of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee representing the 2nd Hampden and Hampshire District.  While active in the Democratic Party she also served locally on the Board of Directors of the Greater Westfield Red Cross and was one of the founding members of the Westfield Homeless Shelter.

Breakfast tickets are $28.00 each.  Persons may elect to be listed as a Patron on the program for an additional contribution of $50.00 or as a Sponsor for an additional $25.00 contribution.  The Breakfast is the only local fundraiser that the Westfield Democratic City Committee holds.  For tickets or information contact [email protected] or [email protected].
