WESTFIELD—Sen. Don Humason is holding his annual Free Ice Skating Party this weekend at Amelia Park.

The event, which is free to anyone who would like to attend, will be occurring Saturday, Dec. 16, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Amelia Park Ice Arena on South Broad Street. Humason asks that in lieu of money, those in attendance bring one canned food or nonperishable food item. These items will eventually be donated to an area food pantry.

“It’s a great way to give back to the communities I have the good fortune of representing,” Humason said of the event.

This year, Humason said that the food collected with be donated to Lorraine’s Kitchen in Holyoke.

According to Humason, many people who attend do not come with just one canned good, but rather bags of food. Last year the event raised about 55 pounds worth of food, which was donated to the shelter in Westfield on Meadow Street. The year before that, Humason donated about 50 pounds of food.

In addition to free skate time, those in attendance can also expect treats, including cookies made by students at Westfield Technical Academy.

If you do not have ice skates but would like to come and skate anyway, rental is $3 per person.
