Shining a Light on Cancer

chd-2016-luminariaWEST SPRINGFIELD – CHD Cancer House of Hope will hold its annual Luminaria Event on Thursday November 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Green at Storrowton Village, at the Eastern States Exposition (Big E) in West Springfield.  The Luminaria Event is an annual celebration that raises money to keep vital programs at Cancer House of Hope available at no cost to individuals and families who are facing a cancer diagnosis and in need of comfort, care and hope.

Local media are strongly advised to cover this community event which creates a visually stunning outdoor experience after dark. During the event, hundreds of candles are lit, placed in luminaria bags and set along walkways along the Green in a display of light honoring those who have been lost to cancer and celebrating those who are survivors.

All Cancer House of Hope services—ranging from therapeutic massage and reiki to support groups and family resources—are provided free of charge. Not surprisingly, such a generous organization depends on generous contributions in order to provide these services.

Luminary Bags are $5 each and can be personally inscribed with the name of a friend or loved one. Each purchase helps Cancer House of Hope continue its mission of offering comfort and care at no cost to those affected by cancer, their caregivers and their families. Luminaria bags can be purchased in advance at www.chd.org (follow the Luminaria link on the home page) or on November 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the event.

Located at 1999 Westfield St. (Rte. 20) in West Springfield, CHD Cancer House of Hope offers free services and therapies to individuals and families facing a cancer diagnosis, and provides emotional, educational, social and spiritual support in a relaxing, home-like setting.  To learn more, visit www.chd.org.
