Tigers storm back

WESTFIELD – Pioneer Valley Christian School led from the outset against Westfield Technical Academy in a boys’ soccer game Thursday at Jachym Field. The Tigers rallied for a 3-1 victory.
Pioneer scored in the 13th minute, but Vitaly Borodin notched the equalizer for Westfield Tech six minutes later.
With two minutes remaining in the first half, Philip Lisyanyy tallied the go-ahead goal. The score was set up by Yeremy Kovylyak, who smacked the post with a shot. The ball bounced back out to the top of the box. Lisyanyy finished the play.
Brad Nelson tucked in an insurance goal in the waning minutes of the game.
“This was a great league win today,” Westfield Tech coach Kyle Dulude said. “(The) guys are really coming together as a team. Hopefully discipline and hard work will continue.”

Bombers ground Golden Eagles
Westfield 3, Central 1

Ryan Prenosil scored two goals and had one assist. Sam Winiarski and Brandon Laforest assisted. Dante Wante also scored for Westfield (5-2-2).
Ian Saltmarsh played well in net for Westfield.
The game featured an odd start as Central raced out to a 1-0 lead, and kept five guys in the backfield, trying to protect a one-goal lead.
“It was actually pretty crazy how Central played us,” Westfield coach Andrew Joseph said. “The boys handled it and didn’t get frustrated.”

Castor lifts Rams
Southwick 5, Athol 0

Brandon Castor scored had a hand in all five scoring plays, tallying two goals and assisting on three others for Southwick. Rams’ Jared O’Connor also had a pair of scores, and Mike Sheil scored once.
Nicholas Doyle and Mason Kowal earned assists.
Southwick goalies Nick Chambers and Kyle Damaio (1 save) combined for a shutout.

Cooper leads Gators
Gateway 3, Pioneer Valley Regional 1

Nick Cooper contributed on all three scoring plays for Gateway. Cooper had two goals and one assist on the road at Pioneer Valley.
Gateway goalie Shane Mastello made five saves.

FIELD HOCKEY
Rams post shutout
Southwick 3, Franklin Tech 0

Three different players – Caroline Wilcox, Emily Martin, and Alyssa Pompi – scored one goal apiece to lead Southwick to victory.
Rams’ goalie Sarah Power (1 save) earned a shutout.

GOLF
Longhi, Durand propel Rams
Southwick 18, Palmer 6

Southwick’s James Longhi (36) and Bradley Durand (38) each shot a round in the 30s to lead the entire field at Quaboag Country Club in Monson. Chris Baker finished with a 40 for the Rams.

Eagles soar past Tigers
Easthampton 23, Westfield Technical Academy 1

Matt Puffer shot a 54 to lead Westfield Tech at Pine Grove Golf Course.

JV BOYS’ SOCCER
Southwick 3, Athol 0

Evan Clarke scored two goals, and the Rams JV squad went on to shut out the visiting Athol Red Raiders Thursday.
Cade Billings had one goal, and Emilio Colucci, Nate Girard, and Eric Haynes each had an assist.
Southwick improved to 5-2.
